PeopleDev International Corp., as the major sponsor, proudly partnered with Angeles University Foundation in the successful implementation of the community extension program, “Roots of Prosperity: Empowering Young Indigenous Farmers for Business.” The initiative reflects a shared commitment to inclusive education, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable livelihood development.
The program was conducted by third-year BSBA Management and Entrepreneurship students of Angeles University Foundation as part of their Social Responsibility and Good Governance (SOCRES) and Project Management (PROJMAN) courses, under the guidance of faculty members Tricia Ann Camile D. Yambao and Cherry Lou Manarang. The activity took place at San Martin Elementary School, engaging young indigenous learners in a meaningful and skills-based learning experience.
A key highlight of the program was a seminar facilitated by Trisha Kaye Sarmiento, Product Development Director of PeopleDev International Corp. In her session, she introduced participants to the fundamentals of product development, entrepreneurial thinking, and value creation. Drawing from industry experience, she emphasized how simple, locally available resources can be transformed into viable business opportunities.
Complementing the seminar was a hands-on training workshop led by the student facilitators. Participants were grouped and guided through the process of creating “Camote Pastillas”—from preparing the mixture of camote and other ingredients, to molding, packaging, and eventually conceptualizing ways to market and sell the product. This experiential approach enabled learners to connect theory with practice, reinforcing both technical skills and entrepreneurial confidence.
The initiative aimed to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among young indigenous learners by equipping them with practical, accessible skills rooted in their local context. By demonstrating how everyday resources can be turned into income-generating products, the program empowered participants to envision new livelihood possibilities within their communities.
